The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a White Alert for parts of the central Maldives, warning of unsettled weather conditions expected to affect the region over the coming hours.
According to the MET Office, the alert is in effect due to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, with gusts likely to reach up to 40 miles per hour during squally weather. Seas are also expected to be rough, particularly in open waters, posing potential risks to maritime activities.
The White Alert, the lowest level in the country’s weather warning system, indicates the possibility of adverse weather that could disrupt daily activities. Residents, fishermen, and operators of sea transport have been advised to exercise caution, especially during travel between islands.
Authorities have urged the public to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and to follow safety instructions issued by relevant agencies. While no major disruptions have been reported so far, emergency services remain on standby in case conditions worsen.
The MET Office continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue further alerts if weather conditions intensify.
